8vo, second edition, pp,[2],ix,244,[2], four sepia tinted plates,uncut, contemporary cloth-backed marbled boards with the original paper title-label to spine, the binding is worn with cracking to the top joint but tight, early name to the leading paste-down endpaper, a little mild foxing, a good copy of a not often seen item.
The novel is set in Devon, described as a land flowing with milk and honey.  Flowing with milk of human kindness.
Henrietta Maria Bowdler who died at Bath in 1830, decided to defer it's publication during her lifetime as it may have been too "progressive" in it's views.
